Montford Bridge to Rodney's Pillar
This route starts off mainly flat for the first 20km followed by a reasonably difficult 2km climb (probably no more than a 10% gradient). After the descent, it is gently undulating all the way back to the start point. It is pretty easy to follow with the only turn I have missed (twice!) being the left at Wollaston - if you do miss it, it easy to rejoin the route at Halfway House by going down the A458 for about 1.5km.
There are two short stretches on busy A & B roads :-
- a short section along the B4393 which should not be a problem but be aware of fast HGVs from the nearby quary
- towards the end of the route you will have to cross and join the A458 at Ford - at rush hour you may find it difficult due to the volume of traffic on this road.
The easiest place to start from is the laybye on the B4380 just off the A5 - not the picnic area on the A5. An alternative would be the "The Old Swan" but you would need to ask permission to park from the landlord.
