A route utilising parts of National Routes 7 and 75.
If you wish to avoid taking your handbike on roads this is an easy cycle from Castle Semple Visitor Centre at Lochwinnoch to Port Glasgow, where the converted railway line ends. It is best to join the track (NR7) just outside the entrance to the car park and follow it almost all the way to Johhnstone, looking for a junction on your left sign posted Bridge of Weir (NR 75). When I rode this route earlier this year there was a poorly signed diversion just after Kilbarchan due to construction work but hopefully this will have been completed. (Note there is one gate at Kilmacolm which is reasonably easy to open unaided but if you are lucky it will not be shut.)
Once at Port Glasgow it is easy enough to continue and follow the signs through the housing estates and further cycle paths to reach Greenock. (Note a fairly steep hill down to the river.) In Greenock there is a short distance on the busy A8 (or riding on the pavement), passing a MacDonalds, until you reach the docks where you join a further cycle path. According to the Sustrans map this path continues until you reach the esplanade, which has a good cycling surface, but I couldn't find the link betwen the two and rode a few hundred yards on the road. At the end of the esplanade you again have a short distance on the road (or pavement) until you reach Battery Park, which has a small cafe. However, if you continue though the park there is a much better cafe on Cove Road.
The track also goes south west to Kilbirnie but there is a barrier across the track which makes it inaccessible for handcyclists unless you are willing to get off and lift the bike over (I had help so it was quite easy).
